These terms are an agreement between you and EmberMitre Limited ("we", "us"), a company registered in Hong Kong, at:

They cover the Hanping Chinese and Hanping Cantonese apps for Android and iOS, Pixolor, and our websites, hanpingchinese.com and hanping.app. By using any of them you accept these terms. How we handle your personal data is set out separately in our Privacy Policy.

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the apps for your own learning and reference. Please do not:

• copy, extract or redistribute the dictionary data, audio or other content in bulk
• resell the apps or their content, or offer them as part of another product or service
• reverse engineer the apps, or get around the checks that tell them what you have bought
• use our websites or servers in a way that disrupts them for other people

Some dictionary data comes from third parties under licenses of their own, which are credited in each app. Those licenses take precedence over these terms for that data.

You can buy features and content, such as add-ons, dictionaries and voices, inside the apps or from our website. The description shown when you buy says what the purchase unlocks.

• Purchases are one-time. What you buy is yours to keep using for as long as we offer the app it unlocks.
• They belong to the store account that paid. A purchase made through Google Play or the App Store stays with that Google or Apple account, and comes back when you reinstall or move to a new device signed in to it. Signing in to a Hanping account links purchases across your devices. Closing that account never takes away anything you paid for.
• Each app is separate. Hanping Chinese and Hanping Cantonese have their own catalogs, so a purchase in one does not unlock anything in the other unless its description says it does.
• Hanping Cantonese includes CantoDict dictionary data, licensed to us for each install. That is why it is priced differently from Hanping Chinese.

Payment is taken by Google Play, the App Store or Stripe, under their own terms.

For purchases made through Google Play or the App Store, refunds are handled by Google or Apple under their policies, and you can ask them directly. For purchases made on our website, contact us with your order number.

If something you bought does not work as described, tell us. We will fix it, or refund you if we cannot.

Nothing in these terms takes away any right you have under the consumer law of the country you live in.

Dictionaries, translations, pronunciations and text recognition are reference aids. We work hard to make them accurate, but they can contain mistakes, and machine-generated results especially can be wrong. Please do not rely on them where an error could cause real harm, such as medical, legal or safety matters.

If you find a mistake, we would like to hear about it: report it here.

We keep improving the apps, which means features can change. We may also retire an app, as we have done before. If we do, we will keep it working for people who already have it for as long as we reasonably can, but we cannot promise it will keep working on every future version of Android or iOS.

We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. Otherwise, to the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

We do not exclude or limit liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

These terms are governed by the law of Hong Kong. If you live in another country, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law there, and you can bring a claim in the courts where you live.

We will update this page when these terms change, and revise the date at the top. A change that affects your rights will be more than a quiet edit.
